Help on Fiverr?

Recently, we decided to hire an animator to help speed up the production of our YouTube videos. However, what we experienced was quite different from my expectations.

Spoiler alert: it involved a scammer from India who pretended to be an Animator from Georgia!

Why hire an Animator?

Well some of you know (a lot of you don't) making cartoons takes a long time. So we hired the first few guys who could show us 2 things:

1. is that they used the same program as us (Moho)

2. is that they knew what they were doing.

Our first assignment was to have the animators animate one of our main characters:

The Reality of the Situation

This was a waste of time. The first 2 guys we hired pretty much gave up on the project and refunded our money. The last guy decided he would give it a try even though he admitted to learning Moho in 24 hours. After a lot of back and forth, 2 weeks passes, we missed the deadline...

The Outcome

FINAL RESULT?
FINAL RESULT?

There is no need to explain anything! If you have eyes, you can see for yourself. If you can't see...Look again! We got scammed! This is not the same character (Its... close?), and the background is a free background that comes with the program. Not only we wasted money, but also time that now has to go into figuring out our next video upload.

Lessons Learned

  • Thorough Vetting: Always take the time to thoroughly vet candidates, looking beyond their portfolio to assess their actual skills and experience. A portfolio filled with stick figures is a red flag!

  • Clear Communication: Set clear expectations and maintain open communication throughout the project to ensure alignment. And maybe avoid using WhatsApp, the best app for scammers—it's a dead giveaway!

  • Quality Over Speed: Prioritize quality over speed; sometimes, a longer timeline can yield better results. After all, good things come to those who don’t rush… or use WhatsApp.

In the end, while the experience was disappointing, it taught us valuable lessons about hiring freelancers and managing creative projects! You gotta pay the right people or just do the shit yourself.
